State Lodge Award

Maria Dangelo received a $500 scholarship from the state lodge. The scholarship was
awarded based on her academic background and an essay.

Maria is the daughter of Charles and Amy Dangelo. She is fourteen years old and
is an eighth grade student at Aquinas Academy in Greensburg.

The $500 scholarship applies to her high school tuition at Greensburg Central
Catholic, where she will be a freshman during the 2011-2012 school year.

Maria has been member of the lodge for several years.

The OSIA Lodge # 2831 invites seniors to apply for it's 2012 Scholarship. The Lodge will award one $1,000 scholarship. Applications are available on-line at www.osiaemiliasammartinolodge.com, the High School Guidance Office, or from any member of OSIA Lodge # 2831.

Applicants must meet the following Criteria and Priority:

The candidates must be high school seniors.

They must be accepted for admission to a 2, 3, or 4 -year degree-granting institution.

They must file applications for this year's announced deadline date of March 15, 2011.

They must be of Italian Heritage.

They must complete the Personal Statement.

Priority will be given to applicants whose parents, grandparents, aunts, or uncles who are members of the Emilia Sammartino Lodge #2831.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

All candidates applying for a scholarship administered by the Emilia Sammartino Lodge 2831,

Order Italian Sons of Italy in America (OSIA) must meet the following five (5) conditions to be eligible for consideration:

The candidates must be high school seniors.

They must be accepted for admission to a 2, 3, or 4 -year degree-granting institution.

They must file applications for this year's announced deadline date of March 15, 2011.

They must be of Italian Heritage.

They must complete the Personal Statement.

Priority will be given to applicants whose parents, grandparents, aunts, or uncles who are members of the Emilia Sammartino Lodge #2831.

The Executive Committee and the total membership prior to the announcement have approved the selection process and eligibility requirements. The sponsoring organization, however, reserves the right to waive any of the above conditions of eligibility.

The National OSIA Lodge offers The National Education and Leadership Grants, General Scholarships, The Henry Salvatori Scholarship and The Italian Language Scholarship.

The Grand lodge of Pennsylvania through the Dante Commission on Education/Culture awards 14 merit-based grants of $500 each. These grants are awarded to one 8th grade student per OSIA district who is enrolled to attend his/her freshman year in a private/parocial high school in September. The Lodge also awards (33) grants of $2,000 each to seniors who will complete high school and enter an undergradaute college program.
